Team Motiv8 athlete Ajit Ghule waited 3 years to finish his 2nd Comrades run in 11h53m, earning the prestigious back-to-back medal in the process.
Speaking about the difficulty in balancing training and work, he said:
“Rest and recovery was a major issue for me while training. I was fighting on 2 fronts – comrades training on one hand, and sitting in OPD on the other. I had OPD for 10-12 hours. Lastly family commitments were also present. I suffered from Acute Fatigue syndrome during the lasy few weeks of training, feeling tired and exhausted all the time. After discussing with coach, I skipped the last long run and few other workouts to allow for better recovery for race day”
Commenting on a miracle on race day, he said:
“My legs started paining after 55K. I was about to quit. Since I was carrying my phone, I called my wife mid-race. She told me if you DNF due to missing cutoffs that OK, but do not quit the race! In the end, I do not know what power or shakti got into me. I had 65 minutes to complete 9.2K after the last cutoff, but I finished!”
After crossing the finish line, Ajit had this to say:
“To be honest, when I crossed the finish line, I still did not believe I had done it.
I have since then realized that we are capable of achieving anything that our mind is capable of desiring.”
