Ask The Coach QnA: run race without bib; combining dance and running

Coach Atul Godbole answers your training related questions…

Q. Rahul asks “I am not register for a race? Can I still run it”

A. Absolutely not. Its one thing to run a part of the course during your training run if they happen to overlap, and another thing to run the entire race from start to finish, without a bib. Running the event in such a way, called “banditing” is frowned upon. Though not illegal per se, if you are found by the race organizers, they will probably ban you from their future events and maybe even from other associated events.

Q. Ameeta asks “Will my dance classes come in the way of run training”

A. Yes. Since both are impact exercises, doing one will definitely affect the other. How important your run training is to you, whether you are prepared to tone down, cut down or even stop your dance classes, etc are questions you need to ask yourself.

But don’t kid yourself that you will be able to do both without affecting each other. You may be able to juggle both for a few weeks or months, but eventually, and especially as the run volume/intensity begins to increase, something has to give.
