Coach Atul Godbole answers your training related questions…
Q. Vishakha asks “What mileage should I target to complete a full marathon. I am only looking for completion, not a particular time target.”
A. The bare minimum mileage required would be 50km per week, sustained over 6 weeks. Of course, the mileage should have a good proportion of workout types like intervals, tempos, easy runs, etc. I would also add a down week, with reduced mileage, every 2-3 weeks.
Also worth noting is that you should ramp up the mileage to 50km per week (or beyond) gradually. If your current mileage is just 25km per week, it would probably not be advisable to suddenly start doing 50km per week.
Q. Rajiv asks “I currently take about 30 minutes to put on a wetsuit. Is this too much?”
A. Yes, by the large margin! You should be able to put on a wetsuit all by yourself in maximum 5 minutes. Like everything else, practice and you should soon get there!
