Ask The Coach Weekly QnA: correct wetsuit size; dealing with an injury

Coach Atul Godbole answers your training related questions…

Q. Hari asks “I feel too constricted in my wetsuit. Should I go for a bigger size?”

A. A correct sized wetsuit will feel a bit tight and uncomfortable on dry land but will feel right when you enter the water.

In general wetsuits do feel a bit claustrophobic especially if you are using them for the first time, but you should not go for a larger size just to get rid of that feeling. That will harm more than it help because water might enter inside the wetsuit and cause you to sink a bit and increase your drag.

Q. Swapnil asks “I am currently injured. How can I get rid of guilt of not doing anything?”

A. There are lots of options – if you got injured while running, then do some cycling or swimming to maintain your aerobic fitness. You can focus on strength training and making a bullet-proof body, do some yoga or hit the gym.

Do not be in a hurry to get back to the sport that caused the injury in the first place. That would be a mistake.
