Ask The Coach Weekly QnA: biking as cross-training; fasting and running

Coach Atul Godbole answers your training related questions…

Q. Tanuja asks “Does biking help running? I heard its good for cross-training.”

A. Yes, biking (as well as other aerobic non-impact activities like swimming, rowing, etc) are good cross training exercises. Be sure to keep it at easy effort level and for about 45-60 minutes, upto 2 times a week.

Q. Vivek asks “I want to try fasting and then running a marathon. Is this advisable?”

A. Only if you do not value your life. If on the other hand, you do value your life, then eat and drink properly before, during and after your workouts, especially workouts lasting more than an hour. As the summer weather grows worse, proper nutrition and hydration is more important than ever.
